Camera shots & Angles Collage

                    Camera Shots & Angles Collage

My teacher tasked our class with recreating various camera shots and angles including a...

-Mid Shot

-Long shot

-Two Shot

-Point of View Shot

-Over the Shoulder Shot

-Close Up

-Extreme Close up

-Birds Eye View

-High Angle

-Low Angle

-Canted Angle

For most of these angles and shots I decided to use various stuffed animals and figures (Funko pops, Smiskis, and Miffy collectables). I chose these objects as my subjects because it was easier to position them compared to attempting to direct a living person or animal. When I was given this assignment initially, I had planned to take pictures exclusively of my cat, Edith. However when I started taking pictures, she was not having it and was laying under the bed and refusing to come out. So, to not bother her too much I decided to use nonliving figures. This ended up being a lot easier, especially for the over the shoulder shot and the low angle shot where I had to do some trial and error with moving my camera to prevent shadows or moving my subject to get the entire object in the frame. The use of figures was also more helpful for the long shot since I could more easily change the background my subject was in. I was able to use a small box with plants for the background rather than finding a location outside which I believe would have been harder to frame. I was able to use my cat for the close up and extreme close up shots, however, because I had a very clear idea of what I needed the shot to look like compared to the other pictures so I was able to set it up and take the picture quickly without moving the camera around.

Taking these pictures helped me get a better understanding of how to set up the camera in relation to a subject in order to get a desired angle or spacing in the frame. I believe I am more prepared to create these types of camera angles for my film opening project later in the year after completing this assignment.
