Sound Design

Image
Sound Design; Mr. Indifferent   For this assignment, my teacher provided us with three different short animated clips, we then had to form a group and choose one of the three clip options randomly. With the clip that we picked, we then had to find non-copyrighted music to score it, focusing on the transitions in mood/tone. For this project, we were not tasked with adding sound effects or dialogue to the clips, but any existing sound effects had to be left unchanged.  Our group (consisting of myself, Ash, Cristian, and Mila) chose the clip "Mr. Indifferent." It is an animated short that followed a man as he goes through his life "indifferently." He doesn't help those around him or seem to care at all about what they are going through. But after helping an older woman cross the street, he recognizes how helping others can make you feel better about your life. He goes t...

Mise-en--scene Analysis

Jurassic Park Mise-en-Scene Analysis  For this assignment, my teacher instructed the class to choose a still image from a movie and analyze it for elements of mise-en-scene like camera angle, shot proximity, lighting, color, composition, characters, and staging. I chose Jurassic Park because it is one of my favorite movies. Since it is one of my favorite movies, I have seen it many times. So, I believed I would be able to tie back the elements of the mise-en-scene into the purpose of the scene better. I chose this specific shot because I had a lot to talk about regarding the shot composition and the positioning of the characters in relation to one another. All of the elements of mise-en-scene work together in this shot to help build tension. The camera angle, composition, characters, and staging help show the ...

Camera Movements

Camera Movements  My teacher assigned our class to recreate 7 of the camera movements that we have been studying in class including a pan, whip pan, tilt, dolly/tracking, handheld, zoom, and doll y zoom.   Whip pan – the whip pan was one of the hardest camera movements for me to get during this assignment . I knew I wanted to whip pan between two of my friends, but each time I tried I couldn’t move the camera quick enough to result in a blurred image. This was because I was trying to move my whole body instead of just the camer a. So, once I realized that I needed to just move my hand, it became much easier to get a consistent blur when transitioning between my two subjects.   Zoom - This movement took me a couple tri es to get completely right since I did not realize that there was an option for a zoom slider on an iPhone , so I had to adjust the zoom by pinching the screen which was difficult to do accurately for me. But, it just took me a couple retakes to do prop...

Camera shots & Angles Collage

Image
Camera Shots & Angles Collage              My teacher tasked our class with recreating various camera shots and angles including a... -Mid Shot  -Long shot  -Two Shot -Point of View Shot -Over the Shoulder Shot  -Close Up  -Extreme Close up  -Birds Eye View -High Angle -Low Angle -Canted Angle   For most of these angles and shots I decided to use various stuffed animals and figures (Funko pops, Smiskis, and Miffy collectables). I chose these objects as my subjects because it was easier to position them compared to attempting to direct a living person or animal. When I was given this assignment initially, I had planned to take pictures exclusively of my cat, Edith. However when I started taking pictures, she was not having it and was laying under the bed and refusing to come out. So, to not bother her too much I decided to use ...
